Goodbye 2008

Today was a Morrison family fun day.  We went out to a field nearby and flew our two kites.  It was really windy today.  We had such a sweet time.

Later after Brady's nap we went to Raleigh and hung out at the Museum of Natural Sciences.  Then we went out to eat at Mellow Mushroom.  It was so much fun just being together!

Before book reading time tonight, we read over our Laugh Jar funnies.  If you have not heard about the Laugh Jar, read up on last year this time on our blog.  We laughed a lot and said goodbye to 2008.  It has been a good year, we have a lot to be thankful for.

Scott made us all French Toast on Christmas morning.

Life is good.

Here we are at Sally's mother's house in Walnut Cove.  We exchanged gifts and visited for a bit with my Dad, Sally, Ms. Fowler and my stepbrother Scott.

Papa and Mimi gifted Julian with Nintendo DS for Christmas.  :)

My Dad with Brayden.

Here we are back at Jan and Jerry's house.  We shared a birthday cake made in honor of Jesus.

I am so proud of these two photos.  My Dad and Sally gave Madelyn this pony ranch made by Playmobil that she had been wanting.  It came in this huge box.  It had tons and tons of pieces and had to be built.  When we got home from our travels, Scott spent quite a chunk of time putting it all together.  He did a fabulous job and Maddie is so thankful for her new toy.

Our Kids At Mom's

We spent a couple of days at my mom and Annette's house over Christmas.  Here are a few pictures of our time there.  Didn't take a whole lot, but these are good ones.

Here's smiley Kalen.  Behind him is Mom's Christmas tree.  It is always so beautiful.

Maddie and Scott (in new vest and bracelet made by Maddie) pictured here at Mom's house.  Mom and Annette just got the dining room painted.  I love the colors they chose.  She also got new hardwood floors.

Here is Kalen opening up a fun game called Hyper Dash.

Mmm . . . my mom made a vegan chocolate cake for us all to share.  Yum!

Gifts Given

This Christmas our family decided to make as many gifts as possible. We used the month of December to get crafty and creative. We bought real canvases and used acrylic and watercolor paints to create masterpieces for family members.

I also made my first attempt to make homemade bath salts.  Thanks to my friend, Jen, they turned out great.  One afternoon, Kalen and I got out all of our supplies and began making different batches of lavender, spearmint, and peppermint bath salts.  We stood over the lavender for a long time, handling it and smelling it.  By the end of the hour, Kalen had his head laying on the table.  Lavender is known for its aid in relaxation.  The spearmint ended up being my favorite oil (scent) used.

I used my handy dandy green machine this Christmas.  Yes, I sewed some cloth napkins and helped the kids make some pillows for family members.  I wish I had taken pictures of those to show you.

Oh, the kids and I also made button bracelets.  They turned out wonderfully.  We just went to our local craft store, Joann's, and bought a container of multicolor buttons for like five dollars.  We already had some stretchy string to put the buttons on.  These bracelets were a hit for the women in our family.  Julian, Madelyn and Kalen all got involved with these.

We ended up buying some gifts.  But, I really enjoyed working with the kids as we chose what to create for which family member.  It seemed more meaningful.  I think I will start now collecting ideas for next Christmas.  Send me any ideas you all have.

Here are some of the paintings the kids created.

Another Brady design.  I never touched his brushes.  He was very intent on using the white space and not touching the marks he had already made.  Adorable.
