A place to call home

Our new home in Durham is dreamy. Scott and I even kid that each night we get to retire to the honeymoon suite upstairs. Our bedroom is much larger and our bathroom is super nice with high ceilings and a garden tub. Love that!

Oh! By the way, we are so thankful to all of our family and and friends that helped us with our move. Jerry, Jan and Shanda travelled to Durham in and with the trucks that we brought. They were amazing. My step brother Scott, who lives in Raleigh, came for several hours. Then there was Brantley, his brother Sonny, Katie is wife and Eleanor his daughter. (Brantley is a very close friend of Scotts that lives here in Durham) They all pitched in as well. We totally felt the love that day. We have so much stuff and they all helped so much.

Mom and Annette had the kids from the Thursday before till Sunday. That was a long time for this little momma but the kids did fine. The kids arrived Sunday. Scott and I worked hard to get their rooms pretty well set up. They were all so excited. I felt like I was apart of that Extreme Makeover Home Edition Show. You know, the one where a family gets a new home and the family members go room to room looking at their new house. Their excitement was so precious.

Orginally, we had planned for the three oldest to still sleep in the same room. That changed when the furniture would not fit as it did before. We decided to let Madelyn have her own room, then Kalen and Julian would share. Of course, Brayden still sleeps in a room alone as well. It has all worked out and the kids are fine. The first night the kids slept here, Kalen was the one upset. He was use to messing with Maddie at night before he would go to sleep. He teared up a little and we allowed him to go in and kiss her and be with her for a moment for he went to his room without her.

We are continuing to unpack and set up things. We are making adjustments and trying to be compassionate and patient with one another.

Living in a city is so different. For example, I went to Target ( a thrill in itself) and I pull into a parking space and I notice signs notifying customers that security cameras are being used. There were several signs. I chuckled and thought, you know security is not something I really ever thought about in Boone. And there certainly wouldn't be cameras in the Walmart parking lot there in Boone.

There is such diversity here. Even our neighborhood is quite diverse. We have Caucasians, Asians, Hispanics, and African Americans all within the next ten homes beside us. Again, this is very different from our little Mountain town west of here.

Our neighborhood has a great sidewalk around it. It is refreshing to see a lot of families out walking or riding bikes at night. We went for a walk last night with the kids. Well, actually Jules, Maddie and Kalen rode their bikes. It was nice.

My kids basically walk around outside with their tongues hanging out. Poor little things have never experienced heat like this before, except for the beach. It is definitely bright as can be outside. Our home lets a lot of natural light in. We have great windows. We don't turn a lot on all day. This light definitely aids in creating a happy home.

Might I say that I have been quite impressed by Scott's handy work around our new home. He has worked outside and in to make things right with this house. He has done such a great job! Oh, and he woke up and 5:30 this morning and went with Brantley to play basketball at Carolina at 6am. Isn't that crazy? He enjoyed it and said that he will do it again. That boy loves to play basketball. I am really happy for Scott. He is finally living his dream, one day at a time.

I would say the Morrison family is going to do quite well here. We have so much to be thankful for. We are holding tight to each other and trusting the Lord's provision for us.
