Yesterday, we took a field trip out to our local Museum of Life and Science. They have a new Dinosaur Trail that we had to see. We were totally excited as we walked up and saw this first dinosaur, a Parasaurolophus. This one was the only dinosaur that the kids could touch and play on. Nice move, I thought, for the designer of the exhibit to put this one upfront.
We kept walking into this late Cretaceous period scenery. We saw lots of life size dinosaurs. Our experience was similar to our recent visit to Kentucky's Dinosaur World. We enjoyed our walk down the path. The weather was perfect, in the high 70's with a breeze. The next photo is of the Fossil Dig section. I bet we stayed there for over an hour as the kids used shovels, pails and sifters to find real fossils. This type of activity is totally up their alley.
Here is sweet Brayden with his big shovel digging for fossils. He found some coral and some shells.
Here is Julian. This guy is truly into dinosaurs. When he was three, he would sit with his dinosaur encyclopedia and ask about all the details on the page. He could pronounce the dinosaur names much better than I could. Then he would draw these amazing pictures of dinosaurs and tell us how he wanted to be a paleontologist. It was cute watching him get so serious as he looked for fossils. This truly meant something to him.
Kalen was right there by Julian's side the entire time digging and searching for shark's teeth. He found like fifteen.
This is the table that they could take their fossils to and identify them.
Brayden's attention quickly diverted to snacks. Kalen took this picture for us.
I believe Kalen took this photo of his sharks' teeth. Pretty neat.

We've been meaning to come to do this, too. Memorial Day 2008 we went to the annual Fossil Festival in Aurora, NC which is somewhat similar to this. Sounds like Julian especially might like going to that, too (http://www.aurorafossilmuseum.com/).
