Kalen's Birthday

This past Wednesday, Kalen turned 5!  He had a super sweet day full of his favorites.  Here's a glimpse . . .
For breakfast, Kalen requested banana and walnut pancakes with strawberries on top.

Kalen loves to paint.  Seemed like a great thing to write on one of his cards for the birthday bucket (see 4/7/09 post).

Scott and I gave Kalen a skateboard for his birthday.  He had been really wanting one for a long time.

As you can see, Brayden was very upset.  He wanted a skateboard just like Kalen and Julian.  Poor guy.

The two coolest skaters I know.

Maddie to the rescue!  She helped make Brayden his own skateboard.  Wasn't that thoughtful? The boys were in on it too.  Madelyn is the one that stayed with it and made sure Brady felt good about it.  Brayden's little skateboard doesn't actually work, but it kept Brayden distracted.  What kid wouldn't like painting a slab of wood outside with his big sister?

For lunch, Kalen wanted sushi.  I took him to Weaver Street Market to get some.  He had some carrot juice with it.  Yum!

That afternoon, Kalen and I made cupcakes and Tofu Lasagna.  He still loves being in the kitchen, so I thought it would be a fun thing to write on one of his cards to draw out.

We decorated our vegan cupcakes with toppings like coconut, chopped peanuts, chocolate chips, and sliced strawberries.  We had never done this before.  They were absolutely delicious!  Kalen is eating his cupcake on the plate that Laurie gave him when he was born.  Thanks Laurie!  How did you know that Kalen would love butterflies, bees and dragonflies?  Thanks sweet friend.

What a sweet blog! I just came across it today. :) Your birthday boy reminds me of my 6 year old son Remy. :)

Have a happy new year of life, Kalen!
