Here is the life cycle of the Black Swallowtail Butterfly:
Here are the eggs on some parsley
This is the full grown caterpillar
This is the Black Swallowtail Chrysalis
Here is one of our own Black Swallowtail friends that had emerged hours before from it's chrysalis.
Our caterpillars turned into butterflies! Check out our gorgeous friends. We will be freeing them later today or tomorrow. In the meantime, we are enjoying them and feeding them oranges.
You can see the chrysalis underneath the stick in our little butterfly house.
There are five of them in there.

I love doing this in my classroom, too. We name the caterpillars, and the children really take a vested interest in leraning through experience and discovery! SO FUN! You ROCK, Mrs. Morrison!!! :)
