Sand Art

Here are some photos of a recent art project we attempted. We put a few drops of food coloring in baggies with sand in them. Once the sand turned a different color, we sprinkled it, like glitter, onto designs the kids had created.

OK friend, what a cute idea. I know you didn't ask, but I just have to share this idea I got from a former art teacher. Get white rice, food coloring, and multiple bowls. Add the primary colors to each bowl of rice and swirl it around until its well mixed. Then blend the primary to show secondary. When you are all done, you have a big bowl or container of colored rice for Brayden to play with during school. I tried it with gel food coloring and it made sticky rice, so use the drops. Besides that, the boys loved it. FYI

Wow, sand, glue, and food coloring...you are a brave momma. I know the kids loved that project. I've never seen that idea before. I priced colored sand at the craft store one time. It is expensive! We have tons of sand in the yard. Do you think we could use it? I'll have to try the rice idea too.
love you, Jen
