Red Carpet Treatment

When Julian was very young we found Five In A Row.  This is a resource for homeschooling moms.  I got this from the Five In A Row website- "Five In A Row was created by Jane Claire Lambert, a successful home-school teacher with more than 17 years experience. Five in a Row provides students with a unit-study approach to early education based on outstanding children's literature. Together, the three volumes of Five in a Row provide 55 lesson plans covering Social Studies, Language, Art, Applied Math, and Science in a way that causes children to fall in love with learning."

I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching my children through this amazing resource.  It is one of the many resources I use to teach them.  I really enjoy unit studies.  This past week, Kalen, Brayden, and I have been reading The Red Carpet by Rex Parkin.

We read this book every morning and talk about something having to do with Bible, Art, Language, Math, Social Studies and/or Vocabulary.  One of the activities suggested in the lesson plans is to create a red carpet experience for someone we love.  In the story the crazy never ending red carpet has been rolled out for the Duke.  In our case, Brayden and Kalen rolled out the red carpet for Daddy.
Kalen eagerly awaiting his Daddy with a balloon tied on his wrist

They greeted him and asked if they could carry something inside for him.  Daddy always comes home with lots to bring inside.

Scott was surprised to find that he would be getting the red carpet treatment.  They rolled out a red sheet on the front steps and a red blanket inside the door.

Yum!  Daddy was served his favorite appetizer.

We let him soak his tired feet in some warm water to relax.

Kalen is telling Daddy all about his day.

We fixed Daddy one of his favorite meals, Tofu Lasagna.

*  Some of the other children's books that we use with Before Five In A Row are Corduroy, Goodnight Moon, Caps For Sale, and Katy No Pocket.  These are books for younger children, 2 to 4 year olds.  There are different volumes for different ages.
