Fried Green Tomatoes

Aren't they gorgeous?!?!

We still have oodles of tomatoes here.  The plants themselves are going downhill fast, but we are still getting these little beauties daily.  One of my friends had mentioned fried green tomatoes the other day,  Scott and I thought we should try them ourselves.  I googled fried green tomatoes recipes and found a couple that I used to make my own.

I poured canola oil in a skillet and sliced up my tomatoes.  I measured out a cup of cornmeal and put it in a pie dish for easy dipping.  I sprinkled in plenty of sea salt and pepper.  I dipped the tomatoes in the cornmeal mixture and put straight into the pan.  I cooked them for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side.  With my second batch I added basil, oregano, and a little more salt to the cornmeal mixture.  They turned out great.  They were so good.

I loved the 1991 film Fried Green Tomatoes.  Making these brought back warm feelings of that time period and when I watched the movie.  Isn't it neat how movies can make us feel comfort and warmth.

I have always wanted to try. I can't get past the thought of it tasting bitter because they are green. Looks yummy.

that sounds SO good. I've thought about doing that before, but never found any green tomatoes... Yumm!!! I may have to step up my searching. The addition of the oregano and other spices sounds amazing!!!

I love that movie, too.
