Museum of Life and Science

Wednesday, the kids and I ventured out to the Museum of Life and Science, in Durham. Little did we know the treat that awaited us.

We spent three hours walking all over this place. There were tons of things to see, touch, press and manipulate. Our senses were in overdrive as we took in all that surrounded us. My kids were so overwhelmed and excited. The fun didn't stop inside, there were a lot of attractions to see outside. Thankfully, it wasn't 100 degrees and we could enjoy it all. The kids played on a huge outside play set. They were able to make music with different materials, chimes and drums.

From the play area outside, we walked on to a butterfly house and an insect section of the museum. The insect part was creepy, but really amazing. The butterfly house made us all feel like we were in an enchanted garden or something, very peaceful and beautiful. The kids picked up a chart of butterflies and tried to identify ones that they saw.

We then trucked on past the museum's wetlands to get to the animal habitats. The wolves were napping but we did see some black bears and interesting lemurs. Just as the kids started talking about how tired they were, it was time to head on home. Fun was had by all.

I was truly delighted to take my children to such a place. A place that was designed for big and small learners. A place with lots of space and hands-on stuff. So, I guess you could say that our field trip was successful.
